Hotels in Russia are very expensive. Most of the good hotels are joint ventures with foreign partners which have opened in the last few years. The old style Soviet hotels may be cheaper but are lacking in service and sometimes cleanliness or safety.
   There are also a few budget places to stay. Keep in mind that the "star rating" for Russian hotels is a Russian rating system which has nothing to do with the rest of the world. A five star hotel may be marginal in other parts of the world. The only reason that we offer this rating system is because it is the only thing you will have to compare hotels. It does not compare to rating systems used in other countries.
